The Girl in the Mirror

I don’t like putting my face out there

I’m scared that it looks nicer in pictures

and when you meet me in real life,

you might not think the same.

I don’t want to be a catfish

but sometimes the lightings right

the camera angle works or the filter is so good

If I’m honest, I’d prefer if you only saw me in real life

and were charmed by my character

but I’m also worried that if you saw me up close

you might notice all the insecurities that I see in me too…

Being me

you don’t have to be me, to read me

you don’t have to understand me, to read me

you don’t have to look like me to read me

all I want is for you to read me knowing these things

you may read me because of these things and that’s fine

you may read me as a result of these things and that’s fine

you may not want to read me because of these things and that’s fine too

but you do have to know these things before you read me

They are all labels that define me
